Cornerstone Church Colchester is an Anglican church that is part of
Anglican Mission in England (AMiE).
We are seeking to be a loving community, growing in Jesus Christ, by Word and Spirit.
We believe that God created humankind for his glory. So, every human should live for God’s glory. But the reality is we have all sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. Therefore, we all deserve eternal punishment. Yet, in God's great mercy, He sent his only Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to provide a way to eternal life for sinners like us. Amazingly, this eternal life is a free gift to all who will trust in Christ as Lord and Saviour of their lives.
This is a bold statement, but we believe it to be true. Why not find out more?
As a church that is part of Anglican Mission in England:
We are part of a fellowship of churches devoted to sharing God’s Word with those around us.
Our conviction is that God transforms lives as the Bible is heard. We believe the Father works to make disciples of Jesus by changing hearts through the power of the Holy Spirit as Christians hold out the Scriptures.
Together with faithful Anglicans throughout the world, we believe the doctrinal foundation of Anglicanism found in the Bible. We are committed to the historic reformed faith revealed in the Bible and expressed in the ancient creeds, the 39 Articles of Religion, the Book of Common Prayer and the Ordinal. As an expression of this, we draw from the wealth of our Anglican tradition to shape our worship and ministry.
We hold to the 39 Articles, the Jerusalem Declaration, Doctrinal Distinctives, Lambeth 1.10, and The Nashville Statement.
We want men and women to flourish in the church, use their spiritual gifts, exercise leadership, and become disciple-making disciples.
Starting a new church during a global pandemic was certainly not our initial plan!
In August 2019, a small group of Christians took a leap of faith, deciding to start a new church in Colchester. They began meeting as a launch team of 8 adults and 2 children, gathering weekly for prayer and planning. After John was accepted as an Anglican Mission in England (AMiE) Pioneer Minister, the church officially launched in 2020, initially meeting online and then in homes.
In the following years, Cornerstone has enjoyed many milestones; becoming a registered charity, officially becoming AMiE’s 25th church, and being financially able to employ John as Senior Pastor. We have also grown considerably in number and now have over 30 members with around 50 joining each Sunday. As the church family has grown, so have our meeting places and we moved from meeting in homes, to a local pub and now to Queen Boudica Primary School where we hope we will grow further.
At Cornerstone we value relational Biblical leadership, and encourage anyone in the church community to bring thoughts and ideas to the leadership team.
In any leadership meeting, we hear from God’s Word and then aim to put this into action through genuine and authentic relational discussions as we work together to bring God glory and see him working through the church.
The day-to-day running of the church is led by the Church Council.
